Don’t mess with his sister!
Two-year-old Jash had never seen his big sister Ruby, 4, at a wrestling match before her battle against 5-year-old Ryan at Indiana Springs Middle School on Dec. 10 in Indiana. So, when it appeared little Ruby might suffer a defeat, Jash ran onto the mat and lunged at Ryan.
“I could not believe that that happened,” Ruby and Jash’s mother, Crystal Lewis, tells PEOPLE. “I was a little embarrassed for a second, but the whole room was laughing.”
In the footage, onlookers burst into laughter as Jash began sprinting onto the mat and pounced on Ryan. Jash’s father, Joel, was right behind the little boy and quickly pulled the toddler off.
“He seemed to be going right for him,” Lewis says of Jash. “There was no pre-warning or anything. We were just intently watching and we couldn’t stop him.”
Though Lewis was surprised by Jash’s stunt, she says he is generally protective of his big sister.
“They pretty much do everything together,” she tells PEOPLE. “They’re together all the time except for when she goes to preschool — they usually include each other in what ever they’re playing.”
In the end, Ryan won the match, but his mother, Tori Prendergrast, says her son was perplexed by the incident.
“He told me, ‘Mommy, I’m only supposed to wrestle one person,’ ” she tells PEOPLE. “He thought they were trying to get him to wrestle two people. He just had fun with his meet and it was only his fourth time wrestling.”
Prendergast shared the footage on Facebook, and it has since amassed more than 500,000 views and has been shared nearly 3,000 times.
“I thought it was so cute. I just had to share it, but I didn’t know it was gonna be this popular,” she tells PEOPLE. “I thought it was so funny and so cute how protective he was of his sister.”
As for Jash, Lewis says the toddler doesn’t really understand the video’s popularity. Ruby, on the other hand, is loving the attention.
“She thinks it’s cool seeing herself on TV,” Lewis says. “She loves attention. She’s a ham so she doesn’t mind it.”
