Let them eat cake!
Fiona the baby hippo has been chowing down on the sweet stuff all week. Of course, the hippo calf’s cake is made out of healthy fruit and veggies, not sugar and flour.
Officially one year old on Jan. 24, Fiona started celebrating her first birthday this weekend with a big bash at the zoo. Guests were treated to cake, ice cream, Fiona merchandise and up-close access to the social media super star.
The other animals were not forgotten either, as zoo residents were given goody bags filled with enrichment toys so they could get in on the birthday fun too. The birthday girl herself spent the party chowing down on one of her fresh and fruity cakes and posing for the paparazzi.
To see the cutie, now over 600 pounds, thrive after her first trip around the sun is surprising and special to all of her caretakers and fans.

The famous calf was born six weeks premature and weighed only 29 pounds, the lowest recorded weight for any surviving hippo birth. Luckily, Fiona was also born a fighter. She beat the odds and grew into the strong, sweet and silly hippo we know today.
Happy Birthday, Fiona: The little hippo that could!
